You can apply a parameterized template to one or more edge devices from an open project *Templates*** **pane.

When applying a parameterized template, you can apply it to a group of edge devices by clicking the group to show only the edge devices in the selected group.

# Additional Details

- While applying a parameterized template to an edge device, you can set values for the variables that affect Edge devices.
- The template variables are changed using the JSON-path and the variable values, and then sent to the edge device using the existing API.

# Step 1: Apply a Parameterized Template

**To apply a parameterized template: **

1. Log in to Manufacturing Connect.
The *Status Overview* pane by default appears.
2. From the Navigation panel, select **Edge Management**.
*Edge Management* pane appears, by default the *Edge Devices* tab displays.
3. From *Edge Management* pane, select **Templates**.
   *Templates* tab appears.
4. Click the **Actions** icon next to a parameterized template and select **Apply Template**.
The *Apply Template: Select Edge Devices to Appl*y dialog box appears.
5. Select one or more check boxes next to edge devices, and then click **Apply**.
The *Set Variables* dialog box appears.
6. From the **Set Variables **dialog box, enter the variable value in the variable field.
**Example**: Enter `PLC1` in the **device\_name** field.
7. Click **Apply**.
The template is applied to the selected edge devices.

# Step 2: Verify Template Parameters are Applied to an Edge Device

There are many types of possible variables. The following verification procedure is an example.

**To verify template parameters are applied to an edge device: **

1. From another browser tab, log in to Manufacturing Connect Edge.
2. From the Navigation panel, select **DeviceHub**.
   The Edge Devices pane appears.
3. Select the device for which the template was applied and ensure that the variables entered in the** Set Variables** dialog box appear correctly.
**Example**: If `device_name `is a variable, make sure that the name for the device is correct. In this case, `PLC1`.
