You can add an alias for Linux serial interfaces that are connected to your network by navigating to **System **>** Info** from the *Serial Interfaces* section.

Linux serial devices assign a random file address upon connection or disconnection and can cause an issue when the system reboots.

:::hint{type="info"}
**Example random file addresses**: `/dev/ttyUSB0`, `/dev/ttyUSB1`, or `/dev/ttyS0`.
:::

The \<`/dev/ttyUSB#`> file address is used when dialing out through a port.

The \<`/dev/ttyS#`> file address is used whenever the port is used for dialing in.

**Notes**:

- You can use alpha-numeric characters for the alias (A-Z, a-z, 0-9).
- The *Symlink *is read only. You cannot add an alias if no symlink is present.
- *Path *information is run by serial number.
- Added *Alias *information is run by alias.
- You can copy an alias to use with DeviceHub drivers.
