Policy Management
The Policy Management pane allows you to modify current policies. Default policies are part of the System module, and are added during installation or upgrade. You must be an administrator to view the Policy Management pane. The following policies can be managed from this section:
- Password Policy
- Disk Space Policy
You can modify a password policy from the Password Policy section. Password requirements are applied when you reset your password or create user accounts in Manufacturing Connect Edge. When creating a password, the password must meet the Password Policy Management requirements which are configured in the system.
By default, the minimum password requirements are:
- Contains at least 1 upper-case letter.
- Contains at least 1 lower-case letter.
- Contains at least 1 numeric character.
- Contains at least 1 special character.
- Is at least 8 characters long.
- Cannot be longer than 256 characters long.
- Auto-generated password length is 12 characters long
- Special characters allowed: !"#$%&()*+,-/;<=>?@[]^_`{|}~
The default password requirements can be changed through the Policy Management screen in the system.
Note:
- Some passwords are generated automatically, such as FTP and OPC UA. Automatically generated passwords are part of the Password Policy.
- Saving or resetting a password policy saves it to the system configuration file.
You can add or modify a disk space policy from the User Limit panel in the Disk Space Policy section. An action of Warning or Stop data collection must be selected before you can save the policy. This means that if you have added a policy for additional disk space, the system will warn you about the disk space limit or stop the data collection, depending on your settings, when the disk space you have designated has been reached. You can view any warnings from System > Events.

If the System Limit is exceeded, an immediate stop data collection action occurs. If the User Limit is low, a ten minute delay occurs before a warning or stop data collection action occurs. Service is restored once disk space becomes available.
When you view the Data Partition Usage section in System > Info, you can view the used, available, and total disk space. This helps you determine how much disk space you should add to the User Limit policy.
Note: From the Data Partition Usage section, the Total disk space amount shown is the total disk space physically available, some of which is reserved for updating the system. The Used disk space amount shown is the amount of disk space used for both the user and the system at the current time. The Available disk space shown is the amount of disk space available for use at the current time.
