To expand the storage pool for your enterprise, you must make a shared folder.

# Before You Begin

Before you complete the following steps, you must do the following:

- Set up a remote storage location.
- Ensure you have admin/root permissions to create shared folders.

# Step 1: Install Samba

You will first need to install Samba.

**To install Samba:**

1. Open Terminal and enter the following commands to install Samba:
 `sudo apt-get update`
 `sudo apt-get install samba`
2. Enter the following command to create a password for your Samba user:
 `sudo smbpasswd -a <user_name>`

# Step 2: Make Shared Folder on Linux

**To make a shared folder on Linux:**

1. From the Terminal, enter the following command to make the shared folder:
 `mkdir /home/<user_name>/<shared_folder_name>`
2. Enter the following commands to make a backup copy of the `smb.conf` file before editing it.
 `sudo cp /etc/samba/smb.conf ~`
 `sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf`
3. Add following lines to the end of `smb.conf` to allow reading and writing to the shared folder:
 `[<folder_name>]`
 `path = /home/<user_name>/<shared_folder_name>`
 `valid users = <user_name>`
 `read only = no`
4. Enter the following commands to apply the changes to `smb.conf` by restarting Samba and checking the file for syntax errors:
 `sudo service smbd restart`
 `testparm`

After you successfully set up a shared folder, you can [Mount External Storage](docId\:tftBjBkB2aFnPd_tuWVmo) in Manufacturing Connect Edge.
