To view data from a Manufacturing Connect Edge Instance, at least one child device (connected device within the Manufacturing Connect Edge instance) must be properly set up. The child device must be connected with tags, and then the tags must be transformed as imported topics inside the Manufacturing Connect Edge instance's *Default Generic MQTT SSL connector*. This first child connection will facilitate the data connection between a Manufacturing Connect Edge instance and the Manufacturing Connect. Additional child device connections from a Manufacturing Connect Edge instance will append to the Manufacturing Connect Edge instance's data.

:::hint{type="info"}
**Note**: Viewing a child device's messages works only for standard tags.
:::

# Before You Begin

Using Manufacturing Connect, activate an edge device. See [Create a Configuration and Activate an Edge Device](docId\:JalA8oA1dTK8BdVoENAwA) for more details.

To use view data from an edge device and/or a child device, you will need to do the following.

- Step 1: Connect a Device with Tags in Manufacturing Connect Edge
- Step 2: Setup Default Generic MQTT SSL connector with imported Topics in Manufacturing Connect Edge
- Step 3: View Data in Manufacturing Connect

To jump to a specific section, refer to the Table of Contents on the right side and click the corresponding step.

# Step 1: Connect a Device with Tags in Manufacturing Connect Edge

Before data can be viewed for a Manufacturing Connect Edge Instance, a device must be first connected to the instance and then associated with tags. This allows the connected device's data to be extracted from the Manufacturing Connect Edge instance.

**To connect a device with at least one tag**:

1. [Connect a Device](docId\:RFVIJdxz7DBAd8mwbismA).

2. [Add Tags](docId\:iOaNZd2AwqnkuppgeE3Eh) to the connected device from the previous step.

# Step 2: Set Up Default Generic MQTT SSL Connector with Imported Topics in Manufacturing Connect Edge

After a device is connected with tags, the Default Generic MQTT SSL connector must be enabled. Then the generated tags earlier must then be transformed as topics to be immediately imported and enabled into the Default Generic MQTT SSL connector.

**To set up Default Generic MQTT SSL connector with at least one imported topic**:

1. Make sure that the Default Generic MQTT SSL connector is connected. See *Manage Individual Connectors* within [Manage Connectors](docId\:sLfLFyQo1iRGdr-Y0RXzC) for details.
   ::Image[]{src="https://api.archbee.com/api/optimize/SSUUxKZUk9bFTEPNn_6Zo/ostENCiaNWOhDe4SABUjs_default-ssl-mc.png" size="80" width="1920" height="969" position="center" showCaption="false"}
2. Import the added tags from **Step 1: Connect a Device with Tags in Manufacturing Connect Edge** as outbound topics to the Default Generic MQTT SSL connector. See *Connector Topics* within [Manage Connectors](docId\:sLfLFyQo1iRGdr-Y0RXzC) for details.
3. Enable the imported topics. See the *Manage Connector Topics* section in [Manage Connectors](docId\:sLfLFyQo1iRGdr-Y0RXzC) for details.

4. (Optional) Edit the imported topics to assign user-friendly names.

# Step 3: View Data in Manufacturing Connect

Once a Manufacturing Connect Edge instance is connected to Manufacturing Connect and a device is added to that Manufacturing Connect Edge instance, you can view data (outbound messages) from that Manufacturing Connect Edge instance or that instance's (child device) in the Manufacturing Connect UI.

**To access the data viewing UI in Manufacturing Connect**:

1. Log in to Manufacturing Connect.
2. From the navigation panel, select **Edge Management**. The *Edge Devices* tab appears.

## View Data From Edge Device

**To view edge device data**:

1. From *Edge Devices*, click the **ID** of the edge device whose data you want to view. The *Device Details* pane appears.
2. Click the **Raw** tab. The *Raw Data* pane appears.
3. Toggle **Auto-Refresh** at the bottom of the pane.
4. Select the refresh interval from the **Interval **drop-down list. The messages published by the topics you have added to the Generic MQTT-SSL connector in *Step 2: Setup Default Generic MQTT SSL connector with imported Topics in Manufacturing Connect Edge* appear on the pane. The list of messages is refreshed according to the interval you have selected from the earlier step.

## View Data From Child Edge Device

**To view child edge device data**:

1. Click the **Show child devices** icon next to an edge device. The child devices for the edge device drop down.
2. Click the **ID** of the child device whose data you want to view. The selected device's information pane appears.
3. Click the **Explore** tab. The *Explore *pane appears.
4. Toggle **Auto-Refresh** at the bottom of the pane.
5. Select the refresh interval from the **Interval** drop-down list. The topics you have added to the Default Generic MQTT SSL connector in *Step 2: Setup Default Generic MQTT SSL connector with imported Topics in Manufacturing Connect Edge* appear on the pane. Their **Last Value **and **Updated At** fields refresh according to the interval you have selected in the previous step.
6. To see the list of values a topic has published since it began auto-refreshing, click **Last Value** for that topic. The values appear in the* Edge Device Object value* dialog box, in a tabular format.
7. To display the same data as a chart, select the **Chart** tab.

**Note**: Once a child device's data has been published (and has become viewable) in Manufacturing Connect, you can visualize this data using Grafana. See [Visualize Child Device Data Using Grafana](docId:7arCAYfruR9X7mAfQfT7W).
