Apply a Parameterized Template

You can apply a parameterized template to one or more edge devices from an open project Templates pane.

When applying a parameterized template, you can apply it to a group of edge devices by clicking the group to show only the edge devices in the selected group.

Additional Details

  • While applying a parameterized template to an edge device, you can set values for the variables that affect Edge devices.
  • The template variables are changed using the JSON-path and the variable values, and then sent to the edge device using the existing API.

Step 1: Apply a Parameterized Template

To apply a parameterized template:

  1. Log in to Manufacturing Connect. The Status Overview pane by default appears.
  2. From the Navigation panel, select Edge Management. Edge Management pane appears, by default the Edge Devices tab displays.
  3. From Edge Management pane, select Templates. Templates tab appears.
  4. Click the Actions icon next to a parameterized template and select Apply Template. The Apply Template: Select Edge Devices to Apply dialog box appears.
  5. Select one or more check boxes next to edge devices, and then click Apply. The Set Variables dialog box appears.
  6. From the Set Variables dialog box, enter the variable value in the variable field. Example: Enter PLC1 in the device_name field.
  7. Click Apply. The template is applied to the selected edge devices.

Step 2: Verify Template Parameters are Applied to an Edge Device

There are many types of possible variables. The following verification procedure is an example.

To verify template parameters are applied to an edge device:

  1. From another browser tab, log in to Manufacturing Connect Edge.
  2. From the Navigation panel, select DeviceHub. The Edge Devices pane appears.
  3. Select the device for which the template was applied and ensure that the variables entered in the Set Variables dialog box appear correctly. Example: If device_name is a variable, make sure that the name for the device is correct. In this case, PLC1.
