Add an Interface Alias
3min
You can add an alias for Linux serial interfaces that are connected to your network by navigating to System > Info from the Serial Interfaces section.
Serial Interfaces section
Linux serial devices assign a random file address upon connection or disconnection and can cause an issue when the system reboots.
Example random file addresses: /dev/ttyUSB0, /dev/ttyUSB1, or /dev/ttyS0.
The </dev/ttyUSB#> file address is used when dialing out through a port.
The </dev/ttyS#> file address is used whenever the port is used for dialing in.
Notes:
- You can use alpha-numeric characters for the alias (A-Z, a-z, 0-9).
- The Symlink is read only. You cannot add an alias if no symlink is present.
- Path information is run by serial number.
- Added Alias information is run by alias.
- You can copy an alias to use with DeviceHub drivers.
To add a serial interface alias:
- Navigate to System. The Info pane appears.
- From the Serial Interfaces section, click the Action menu next to a serial interface and select Set Alias.
- From the Create Interface Alias dialog box, enter an alias name in the Interface Alias field.
- Click Create Alias.
