Add an Interface Alias

3min

You can add an alias for Linux serial interfaces that are connected to your network by navigating to System > Info from the Serial Interfaces section.

Serial Interfaces section
Serial Interfaces section

Linux serial devices assign a random file address upon connection or disconnection and can cause an issue when the system reboots.

Example random file addresses: /dev/ttyUSB0/dev/ttyUSB1, or /dev/ttyS0.

The </dev/ttyUSB#> file address is used when dialing out through a port.

The </dev/ttyS#> file address is used whenever the port is used for dialing in.

Notes:

  • You can use alpha-numeric characters for the alias (A-Z, a-z, 0-9).
  • The Symlink is read only. You cannot add an alias if no symlink is present.
  • Path information is run by serial number.
  • Added Alias information is run by alias.
  • You can copy an alias to use with DeviceHub drivers.
